Hello from Our Sunny Corner of Paradise!

ree

Well, here we are— already in the second week of August! The days are a happy blur of familiar smiles, new faces, and plenty of sunshine. This is our third summer season and once again it’s racing by. And what a summer… heatwave after heatwave! Perfect for our naturist sun-worshippers, though even we have to admit— at times it’s been really hot. The garden has turned a little crispy around the edges, but we’re keeping things alive thanks to the river and our trusty water well.

One of the loveliest things about this year is how many of you have come back again. Honestly, it feels like the biggest compliment we could ever receive. We even joked that maybe one day we’ll only open for returning guests… but then we’d miss out on meeting those who haven’t yet found our little ‘petit paradis’. And this year’s newcomers? Absolutely wonderful. Alongside our Dutch and Belgian friends, we’ve had English and French guests too— good for our French practice and great fun all round. Oh, and here’s something that still makes us smile: so many of you have already booked for 2026. Yes, 2026! In fact, one week in August is nearly full already. Granted, we only have four rooms— but still, it’s special every single time.

Meanwhile, Herman has finally tackled the pétanque court! It’s been on the to-do list forever, but between our May holiday, the new kitchen in the grange, and replacing that roof, there hadn’t been a moment. Now it’s almost ready for its grand debut— and the first game will go to the guests who kept reminding us it was on the list.

Johannetta is happy with her decision not to cook every evening this season. These nights off give us a chance to relax, while our guests either explore the local restaurants or cook something themselves in the new guest kitchen. Speaking of which, this kitchen had a cheerful inauguration: the guests organised a BBQ for everyone. It began with a playful speech for “Madame Johannetta et Monsieur Herman,” complete with a holy water sprinkler and holy tap water, and ended with a feast from the brand-new gas barbecue.

Since then, there’s been no shortage of magical evenings. There’s been pizza night, where guests kept the pizza oven going until well after dark; evenings by the pool with the lights casting a fairy-tale glow while cameras clicked; and of course, countless outdoor dinners under the stars— except for the two occasions when the flies invited themselves in such numbers that we retreated indoors— where, frankly, it was cooler anyway.

This year we’ll be open until September 19, and there are still a few last-minute spots for anyone tempted to pack a bag and head our way. So if this little update has you dreaming about visiting us and you haven’t made plans yet, drop us a line to inquire about options. But first— we have a few more lively August weeks to enjoy, with the heatwave showing no signs of giving up just yet.
